Kilpisjärvi is situated at the “arm” of Finland, right on the edge of the Norwegian border. It is home to Finland's only over kilometer-high fells, which are part of the compelling Scandinavian mountains. Visitors are lucky to witness untouched wilderness and abundant wildlife that define this extraordinary region. From the village one can comfortably gaze at the stunning beauty of the majestic Saana fell. Kilpsijärvi is also known as one of the best locations in the world to see the Northern Lights.

Popular winter activities in the area include snowshoeing through the fells, embarking on snowmobile adventures, visiting reindeer farms, ice fishing and immersing oneself in the Sami culture. One of the best times to visit Kilpisjärvi is during early fall when the leaves begin to display various shades of red, purple, and yellow. Kilpisjärvi offers breathtaking hiking and trekking opportunities from summer to fall, allowing nature enthusiasts to experience the Arctic flora and perhaps even spot reindeer, eagles, and other wildlife along the way. Klipsijärvi Lake, with its clear, turquoise waters, invites visitors to enjoy peaceful boat rides or try their hand at fishing. With its close proximity to Sweden and Norway, you can even wander across the borders during your hikes.

GETTING TO KILPISJÄRVI
Getting to Kilpisjärvi from Rovaniemi is relatively easy. You have the option of renting a car or take a bus from Rovaniemi and Levi to Klipsijärvi. The ride takes approximately 5-6 hours. Alternatively, you can reach Kilpisjävi from the Norwegian side. The closest international airport being in Tromso, and the driving time being approximately 2h hours. Both ways will offer you beautiful scenic views all the way to Kilpisjärvi.
