The museum houses two main exhibition buildings, where you can explore the Lappish Gold History and Golden World exhibitions. Step outside into the outdoor museum area to see authentic gold prospectors’ huts, mining machinery, and captivating displays of life on a goldfield.

Programs:

  • Introduction to Gold Panning: Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, you’ll enjoy learning the traditional gold panning method in the Gold Museum’s dedicated gold panning basin. Guided by an expert, you’ll be shown how to find real gold, hear captivating stories from the goldfields, and take home your very own gold nugget. Gold panning can take place either outdoors during the summer season or indoors during colder months, making it available year-round. Gold is guaranteed!

  • The Golden Tour: Take a guided tour through the history of gold in Finland and around the world. You’ll hear fascinating stories of the gold rush in Finland, from the Ivalojoki River’s first gold rush in 1869 to the vibrant gold prospecting traditions that still exist today. The tour also includes a visit to the Golden World Exhibition, where you’ll learn about famous gold discoveries worldwide and their impact on history—all under the world’s largest gold pan.
